The blogs Barnie the Flumph & Save vs Total Party Kill have also done some excellent write ups on how they make the Carcosa races different in their games.

So a few ideas:
Different Colored Blood:
To add some weird to the game, I gave each of the races different exotic colored blood in my campaign.
* Black Men: Blood: Is the color of Oxidized Bismuth.
* Blue Men: Blood: Looks like olive green tinted Mercury.
* Bone Men: Blood: Looks like a clear Aquamarine color outside the body.
* Brown Men: Blood: Looks like bright yellow-Green. (Like "The Predator".)
* Dolm Men: Blood: Looks like Brazilian Opal.
* Green Men: Blood: Looks like metallic purple.
* Jale Men: Blood: Has the color of brightly polished brass.
* Orange Men: Blood: Is a metallic turquise color.
* Purple Men: Blood: Is an orange tinted gold color.
* Red Men: Blood: Is a semi-transparent amber color.
* Ulfire Men: Blood: Is a neon brown color (Your brain hurt yet?)
* White Men: Blood: Is an oily black color.
* Yellow Men: Blood: Is a gunmetal blue color.

Eyes of the Carcosans:
Finished drawing these up this morning.
Last few months, aside from moving a few times, I have been playing in numerous G+ games, including HMS Apollyon (Dungeon of Signs), Blackmash (No Fair Fights), The Successors DCC RPG Campaign (Starting Over With The OSR), Dungeon Moon (Paper & Pencils blog) as well as Masters of Carcosa (Save vs . Total Party Kill).

Well decided to start a Carcosa website called Hyadian Schism: Chaos in Carcosa.
Hyadian Schism
https://sites.google.com/site/hyadianschismchaosincarcosa/

There you will also find some of the High res Carcosa Hex Maps I made over the last few months.
Hex Maps
https://sites.google.com/site/hyadianschismchaosincarcosa/home/-hex-maps

PLEASE NOTE: The website is a work in progress. Some areas are still blank and others are an unfiltered mess of uncleaned up data, such as character creation data literally stripped from the character creator program and dumped on pages. Will be cleaned up eventually.Hyades Shall Singhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14930151681565241920noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564509179857802462.post-50367841950369553132014-07-07T15:18:00.001-07:002014-07-07T15:18:03.757-07:00Clowns...fear the clowns!

In my opinions it's kinda like 'Lost' meets 'Land of the Lost' (both 1974 and movie version) with various other Fantasy and Sci-Fi mixed in, with a good dose of Lovecraftian flavor added. So like in 'Lost' instead of the island pulling down airliners, it pulls in star ships and dimension portals in people/things from across time/space/dimensions.
Loved this so much, I ordered a print copy as well as the 'Liberation of the Demon Slayer', also by same author.
If you love crazy gonzo settings, definitely give it a look!Hyades Shall Singhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14930151681565241920noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564509179857802462.post-72522689941317136162014-05-13T07:48:00.001-07:002014-05-13T07:48:55.843-07:00Random Space Alien Facilities ProgramAnother program I plan to update at some point. It generates randomly generates [space alien] facilities.
Depending on output, you can tell if it's abandoned and under new management or still under alien control.
I might make some generic maps that might fit together depending on which sections are spawned by the program.
I am developing a few different village and other settlement generators, but needed to develop a cult & god program.

Here is a test run sample of some of what it spits out.

HEX: 0101

1) Hzipyb , The Yellow God of the Engraving Worlds.

Hzipyb , is a Yellow part Dog & part Cockroach looking Monster with Cilia-Like Orange Camo-like patterns

Followed by the Cult: 'Followers of Hzipyb's Word'

Who's Tenents & Taboos Include:

* Never seek shelter from storm.

* Never wear blue clothing.

* Strangle those who laugh toward the full moon, Camilla.

* Never eat black fruit.

* Never wear platinum jewelry

* Left side torso tattooed in sacred marks of your cult.

* Once a year make pilgrimage to The Forest of Ptagn.

* One must shed own blood on new moon, Elhalyn.

* Seek out technology related to the Zetas(Space Aliens).

--------------------------------------------------

Cult's Main Holy Days:

Sathoth the 18th

Tymoy the 5th

Lobra the 16th

Mullus the 23th

Obera the 24th

Cesto the 11th

Ybrii the 14th

Eysu the 7th

Eysu the 2nd

--------------------------------------------------

Sacrifices:

Prefered Sacrifices: White Apes

Prefered Sacrifices: [Ganarji] Green Men

Prefered Sacrifices: [Whytite] White Men

Unacceptable Sacrifices: Gaunt Men

Unacceptable Sacrifices: [Pahsari] Purple Men

//////////////////////////////////////////////////

It spits out ten different gods & cults for each of the 400 Carcosa Hexes. (4000 entries.)

Once I flesh this out a little better, the plan is to combine programs to add these to applicable settlement types.

Not posted on my blog and only followed a few in last few months. To be honest, part of the reason I took a break was Blogger was having wayyyy to many issues for me to want to deal with. So gonna give it a shot again and see if this works a little better this time around.

Your in Carcosa now...

So I have to box up all my customizing supplies in preparing to move, and probably won't get around to sharing the Carcosa custom action figures I had been working on, so here is a sneak peak...
These two are based on Kelvin Green's art, that he made for Fight On #4.
Nothing spectacular. Just giving the old DARKBASIC PRO a try again. Made some character, npc, and monster generators, plus working on a few mapping programs.
Though few months back I had forgotten that I had written up a Celestial Events program.
It assumes that at year zero there was some crazy alignment of all the planets in the system, the two suns and both moons of carcosa. From there it calculates when moons are new/full, when planets are aligned and when the secondary sun in my campaigns is either eclipsing or being eclipsed by the primary sun.
(Decided each month represents an eclipse phase of the suns.)
I set it to do a print up of the year 1138... Ya I know, but it was the first big number that came to mind.

As was commented on my earlier Calendar post, it's true. Most players won't care about such things. Though I do have a couple who love this stuff.

This gives me a chance to prepare weird events triggered by celestial alignments.
A few months back I had read E. M. It was more like a praying mantis the size of a dog, but instead of the normal mantis head, it was a baby’s. Yeah, it’s Carcosa."

I felt like drawing this morning so figured I would give it a shot.Hyades Shall Singhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14930151681565241920noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564509179857802462.post-15183865612480652572012-06-01T00:53:00.001-07:002012-06-01T00:53:43.299-07:00MrZarono's Amazing Mythos Art!LOVE THIS ART!
Hoping a few of you out there are interested in contributing to the project. :)
The idea is take a hex from the Carcosa map and the community collectively details it.
Crusssdaddy has suggested HEX 0702. (right in the middle of The Bottomless Lochs.)
Errr... well I was wrong. Problem is I do too much of my map working when I am half asleep. It appears that the base map I have been using for all of them was slightly misshaped and had few too many hexes. Instead of being 704 yards per hex it calculates out to be more like 651.851851851851...(continuing of course.)
Well crap. OK well I can live with 651.851 yard scale hexes. I mean, how often do you see that anyways? Fixed the misshaped hexes with slight adjustment to top and bottoms without having to redo them all again.
So in the title I mentioned HEX 2005. Why?
I continue the adventure for my players again this evening.

HEX 2005
The hex numbers don't match up to the ones in the Fungoid Garden module since the scale is different.
This was to play around with my custom map icons and give the desert a bit more character, adding dunes, cracked ground, rock formations, desert cactus and sagebrush and variety of icons for encounters, such as dinosaur skeletons, roaming npcs, etc...
In the upper left I put a suggested location (base on his coordinates but converted for this map's scale) for those who might be using S.P.s Remnant, a village he describes in his blog here: http://psychicmayhem.blogspot.com/2012/01/village-of-remnant-carcosa.html

A few of the encounter locations: Some old, some new.
Fungoid Gardens: subhex 1604
Village of the Consumed God: subhexes 2105,2205,2206
Natural Spring: subhex 1705
Shrine to Yog-Sothoth: subhex 2602
Caves: subhex 2806
Cannibal Caves: subhex 1607
Dimetrodon Skeleton: subhex 1402
Cave Fisher, kinda like the old D&D one but evolved from giant hermit crabs that instead of shells, they attach themselves to caves in cliff walls in badlands.
Subhexes: 1006, 1108, 0609, 1027
Stegasaurus Skeleton: subhex 0311
Giant Scorpion: subhex 0414
THE PREVIOUS ADVENTURE:
In the last adventure the characters managed to turn on each other, split up, joined up with various opposing factions in the area of HEX 2005 and somehow managed to get a mad group of yellow men from the Village of the Consumed God to run into a group of Yellow Men Cannibals on their way to going after the Bone Sorcerer, while the other Dino Riders jumped in and attacked both groups. In the chaos, the characters managed to go hide among the rocky badlands. They eventually found each other and one of the accidentally found the entrance to the Fungoid Gardens. (which they had forgotten about.)
I rolled for a random encounter when they entered the caves. The Alchemist was rolled. The characters decided to talk to him instead of attacking. When the Blue Man of the party realized that the person they were talking to was not only an alchemist but also plucking fungus, he showed off his new mutant ability to grow mold. I rolled for the reaction of the alchemist who was more than happy to continue conversation.
After some talks and an arranged meeting with the Bone Sorcerer the characters ended up getting recruited as guards for the Fungoid Gardens. That was where I left the game off last. I was not expecting it.
Many of the situations came about due to the results of letting the dice to the decision making and it led to a much different and more interesting game session than I had expected. Makes me think about Zak S's post "The Game is a Player" http://dndwithpornstars.blogspot.com/2012/05/game-is-player.html

NEXT ADVENTURE:
So since the characters are guards now, I get to bring the adventure to them. Tonight I have a group of adventurers that will be raiding the Fungoid Gardens and the characters will need to defend it. If they survive they will learn some more hidden secrets that perhaps even the Bone Sorcerer did not know about his domain...Hyades Shall Singhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14930151681565241920noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564509179857802462.post-18003422604140288372012-05-08T00:00:00.000-07:002012-05-08T00:02:39.202-07:00My old Thaggasoth Peaks mapsAs I said in earlier post, I am redoing my Thaggasoth Peak maps in a more detailed format.

Though some might need a quick map to detail a hex for an adventure, so I am posting all the old ones here.
As they say one man's trash may be another man's treasure.

EDIT- When coordinates are given its A (Across) first then D (Down) (example: subhex 12A,5D)

Here is what I have so far for descriptions. I am only about half way though. Hopefully I will get around to the rest of the descriptions later.
The plan is to work my way from the top left size of the Thaggasoth Peaks down to the lower right side, hex by hex.

Subhex 5A,13D: "Emblek",Giant Mutant Scorpion: The mutations of this scorpion has vastly increased its intelligence to human levels and it has the capability of using five psionic powers per day. It has a Space Alien Force Field belt wrapped arround the base of one of its claws. It discovered how to use it purely by accident when it investigated the flying saucer wreck in sub hex 15A,8D. It figured out how to activate it and has used it to give it the edge to survive. The Dimetrodon Men (see below) occasionally offer sacrifices and worship this scorpion. It's den is in this hex and if during the day it may be within. At night it hunts across the sage brush lands nearby for victims. It cannot speak but understands the tongue of the Dimetrodon Men (which is a bastardized version of Serpent Man.) "Emblek", (as the Dimetrodon Men call it) dislikes the undead in the area and may wait for potential victims to be in combat with one of the roaming undead before striking and taking a distracted adventurer. The den is a small network of caves. In one pit of the cave the scorpion disposes of gear and supplies it has no need for. As it is intelligent it has set traps in parts of the cave.

Subhex 7A,12D: Trapped Undead Skeletons: A group of eight skeletons (of humans), armed with Kopesh-like swords wander the in circles in a partially exposed lava tube. Some overhead sections are intact and form natural bridges over the section of old lava tubes.
Subhex 12A,14D: Wasteland Crater: This is a meteorite crater taking up most this subhex. When the moon of Cassilda is full anyone standing within the crater will appear on a deserted but survivable crater on that moon of similar dimensions this this crater. Though either technology or magic the moon crater has a comparable gravity atmosphere. There will also be low cloud cover in the crater. If the characters try climbing above the cloud cover of the crater they begin to notice far less gravity and it gets difficult to breath. Most characters will pass out before reaching the top where they would be exposed to vaccuum of the moon's surface. There is also a 25% chance of 1D4 Byakhee being perched on the upper edge of the crater who will notice anyone trying to climb above the cloud layer.
The moon crater may have hidden tunnel networks that lead to other similar craters. These are likely to be the home of Moon Beast slavers.
It reaches out with five tentacles all made of a almost physical looking shadow. The creature never reveals it's body which is always in the shadow pit. The tentacles are immune to non-magical physical attacks. Magical physicals attacks do minimum damage. It is also immune to elemental projectors. Actual energy weapons do half damage.

I get the feeling this is eventually gonna happen in my Carcosa campaign.
It has been a very long time since I saw this movie. I only thought about it because I remembered the mini-volcano shaped hot springs and was gonna add them to my game at some point.
Looked up the scene and thought, yep soon as I add those at least one of the characters is gonna boil a dinosaur egg in it.Hyades Shall Singhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14930151681565241920noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564509179857802462.post-60084800306232105852012-04-13T01:46:00.000-07:002012-04-13T02:34:00.767-07:00So ran my first Carcosa game tonight. OK, it wasn't OD&D. It was my heavily modified Runequest/Stormbringer/Call of Cthulhu inspired rule system I have been working on for a while.

Was a short introduction adventure more than anything. After seeing what type of characters got rolled up, I decided to place the characters in the yellow man village "People of the Consumed God" (from Fungoid Gardens of the Bone Sorcerer adventure)
Since one of the characters was a Yellow Man I had decided on that setting. The other two characters were an Irrationalist Alien (one of the most difficult to roll random races on my list.) and a Blue Man. The Irrationalist Alien had developed psionics and escaped from his people before they could kill him. On the way he activated a robot to take with him that had not been repaired completely and was insane.
(The insane robot companion was a result of the character background rolled.) The robot was an NPC that I portrayed as the love child of Gir (Invader Zim) and 343 Guilty Spark (Halo) and was a flying eye that was most likely used as an interpreter by the aliens when they needed to talk to humans.
Then there was the Blue Man.
His background rolled was "Sex Slave". To fit these two characters into the introduction setting, I decided that “The Incomparable Crown” was experimenting with his sexuality and purchased the sex slave from some other village. Over time he was allowed to wander the village and not be killed as he was owned by the tribal chief.
The Irrationalist Alien was going to be a sacrifice but proved valuable when he used his psionics and healed a wound of one of the villagers who was preparing him for being sacrificed. "The Incomparable Crown" decided to spare him so he could learn more about other space aliens.
In the first adventure the Blue Man decided to sneak up to the edge of the pit that the “The Consumed God” resided and try to
get a snack from whatever "food excretions" may still be left before the god woke up. The Alien's robot sees him sneaking by in
the night and follows. The Yellow Man (who had rolled skills comparable to a theif) was casing a nearby set of huts when the robot
floated past him, getting his attention.
The Blue Man found a few snacks and the robot pretended to eat some of the scraps by rolling in it. The Yellow Man hid behind a
hut and watched the events while the Irrationalist Alien tried to retrieve the robot before it got itself (and him) into trouble.
Then the gurgling noise of "The Consumed God" sent the character's into a panic. The non-yellow men of the group had been there long enough to know what resided in the pit. It was night at this point and time for the creature to rise. The rest of the villagers were in hiding to avoid the madness of seeing the god. The Irrationalist Alien grabbed the robot and ran with it like it was a football back to
his hut. The Blue Man crawled on top of the most sturdy nearby structure that he could try looking at the creature and the Yellow
Man did the same but from peaking behind a building. Somehow both characters managed to not lose sanity from the experience.
The Yellow Man however began puking when he realized the food he and the other villagers have been eating was essentially the
God taking a crap. After the God finally sunk back down and it was safe once again, the Blue Man rushed to get a huge supply
of fresh "God Excrement" for his food supply.
The next day the Blue Man plotted to gain more favor with his master and offered to create a wondrous work of art near the sacrificial pit. Succeeding in convincing "The Incomparable Crown", he managed to steal some art supplies from the Irrationalist Alien (The stuff the Alien used to disguise himself with.) and began work on his project. His roll to do the art was extremely terrible. It was so bad that I rolled a chart I had for reactions to fumbled skills. Dice are funny things. I managed to roll a result that made "The Incomparable Crown" think the terrible art was actually divinely inspired. Rolled for the crowd and got same result. Made a secret roll for "The Consumed God" when it was to rise the next night and perceive the terrible art, and it got the same result.
(I started thinking my dice were broken at that point.) I decided that the god had the ability to gift those it found favor with and that character got to roll on the custom positive mutation chart. He got the ability to make fungus. Player had never seen the chart before and I watched his roll. It just fit so perfectly.
The Yellow Man, so disgusted that he had been eating "God Excrement" for years, decided to leave the village and headed to the Oasis a few miles away. He heard a large creature approaching over the sand dunes and he dove for cover in the sand. He tried to conceal himself but failed. He looked up to find a Purple Man riding an Allosaurus. The Allosaurus was drooling and would have eaten him, though the Purple Man wanted to toy with the Yellow Man. The dino-riders hate the nearby Yellow Men because they worship Great Old Ones. In a conversation he realized the Yellow Man had left the village in disgust and that he had obviously renounced his god. The dino-rider made him the offer of either become the meal of his hungry Allosaurus mount, or become his servant. The Yellow Man gladly joined him and was thrown rations.
It was a short game and no actually combat occurred. We had to stop at that point. Though hopefully next week I plan on getting the characters on the way to the Fungoid Gardens of the Bone Sorcerer.Hyades Shall Singhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14930151681565241920noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564509179857802462.post-77136492487419198872012-03-30T17:37:00.000-07:002012-03-30T23:58:06.784-07:00The GoarSince most usual domestic animals don't exist on Carcosa, I have started making some that would be more suitable to the setting.

Please forgive my art. I have not actively drawn by hand since the mid 90s. (and my poor paint shop skills at coloring in the scanned in image.)

I have not run DnD for years and like I have mentioned before am converting Carcosa to a home brew system. I will be providing some simple stats for someone to work with for ODnD since most of the people who play in the Carcosa setting will most likely be using those rules.

Goar
Armor Class: 5 [13]
Hit Dice: 3-4
Attack: bite (1D8) or claw (1D6)
Special: None
Move: 14
The Goar appear to be evolved from synapsids. It shares reptilian and mammal traits.

It has a reptilian body, rodent like incisors, boar like tusks and horns like a goat.(plus a few other smaller horns) They also have tufts of thick fur on their chins. Some villagers have domesticated Goars as riding animals. They can move rather fast when they need to. The illustration only an example. There are many subspecies who possess different patterns and colors. Like rodents, Goars need to gnaw on wood or bones to grind down their incisors. These creatures are omnivores, though prefer meat.
